Novak Djokovic was not in a good mood during the second set of his loss to Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final on Sunday. The 34-year-old lost a point in the fourth game and expressed frustration by smashing his racket on the pitch. Medvedev recorded a win in straight sets and sealed a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win and also took his first Grand Slam title. The win also prevented Djokovic from closing the US, French and Australian Opens and Wimbledon cleanly in the same year. Here is the video of Djokovic breaking his racket in the second set:

Djokovic also missed his fourth US Open title and is still on par with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with 20 men’s Grand Slam titles.
Medvedev was the first Russian male to win a Grand Slam title after Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin. Kafelnikov won the French Open in 1996 and the Australian Open in 1999, and Safin won the 2000 US Open and 2005 Australian Open titles.
During the post-game presentation, Medvedev apologized to Djokovic and his fans for refusing to make history.
“Sorry to your fans and Novak because we all know what he’s up to,” he said.
“What you’ve achieved in your career, to me, you are the greatest tennis player in history,” he added.
Djokovic meanwhile congratulated the 25-year-old and said that he deserved the win. “Now if there is anyone who deserves a Grand Slam title, it is you,” he said.
