DETROIT, Michigan – Ben Wallace is NBA Hall of Famer, NBA Champion, and four-time Defensive Player of the Year. Now, the 47 year old can do basketball operations and team engagement consultants for the Detroit flask on his résumé.
The Pistons announced on Friday that Wallace had been hired in that role to provide General Manager Troy Weaver and head coach Dwane Casey with the basketball operations staff and development aspect of the players on both the Pistons and Motor City Cruise of the NBA G League support.
“Ben is a Hall of Famer and Pistons Legend who kept coming home to support our team and our organization,” said team owner Tom Gores in a statement. “He embodies everything we’re building here and will be a real asset to Dwane, Troy and the rest of our team. Ben has helped set the standard for what it means to be a piston and is going to be a huge one Influence our young players. “
Wallace will also contribute to the community’s efforts. He’s one of the big guys in the franchise, with his # 3 jersey that retired in 2016. He left Virginia Union University, a member of historically black colleges and universities. Because of his die-hard defense, he made it onto the All-Star team four times and was named All-NBA five times. Wallace also secured a spot on the all-defensive team six times, including being named the first team in five different seasons.
