Defending champion Daniil Medvedev recovered from a set against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz on Sunday on the opening day of the ATP finals in Turin. The second seeded Russian triumphed with 6-7 (5/7), 6-3, 6-4 over the seventh seeded Hurkacz. “I had zero breakpoints to save, so in a way I was never under pressure,” said US Open Champion Medvedev, who fired 15 aces in the match. “I only had two games on Hubert’s serve in which I had breakpoints. Super happy that this worked and I managed to get both breaks.” Medvedev has now won 23 of its last 26 games.
Later on Sunday, the third seeded German Alexander Zverev will meet the sixth seeded Matteo Berrettini from Italy.
This year’s ATP Finals will be held in Turin for the first time after moving from London.
