BERLIN – Two-time major winner Martin Kaymer is taking three months off for the birth of his first child, he told a German golf magazine on Thursday.
Kaymer is expected to be a father at home in Germany in January and would like to live in Florida with his family – including girlfriend Irene Scholz – after the birth.
“Our child was born in Germany and I won’t play tournaments for three months and won’t start again until March,” Kaymer told Golf Magazin.
Kaymer added that “shuttling between America and Europe just didn’t work for me”. .
Kaymer won the PGA Championship in 2010 and the US Open in 2014, but has not won a tournament since then. Kaymer is 118th in the world this season and 49th in the Race to Dubai on the European Tour.
